Dare to Dream: Highlights from the 55th NZSP District Convention in Rotorua
The weekend opened with a warm welcome cocktail hosted by Governor Mike Boyd and cultural performances that reflected Rotorua’s rich traditions. Students from Kaitao Intermediate School performed a stirring haka, honoring Governor Boyd’s years as their teacher and setting the tone of respect and fellowship.
A highlight of the evening was the book launch of Kiwanis Threads Across the Pacific, Caroline Salisbury’s powerful memoir marking 10 years of the Threads initiative. The story resonated deeply with attendees, reminding everyone of the transformative grace that can come from compassion and collaboration.
The convention also celebrated milestones of service, including the 35th Legion of Honor awarded to Neuville Joll of Taupo Club and the 50th Legion of Honor presented to John Thomson of St. Heliers Club. Lively moments came with the Cowboys, Cowgirls, and Pocahontas show, which added color and camaraderie to the event.
International Trustee Mohan Lamsal, together with his wife Shila, joined the occasion, presenting a pin to the 2025-2026 District Board. A symbolic passing of wisdom with his mentor, Clinton Green, was also witnessed. Governor Designate Hina Mercier and her incoming team were introduced, promising fresh energy and direction for the coming year.
Workshops on social media and recognition of Kiwanis achievements across the Pacific further enriched the program. As the event concluded, Kiwanians left Rotorua inspired, ready to bring the spirit of “Dare to Dream” into their communities, while looking forward to the next year’s convention in Napier.
