George Yoshida of Tokyo, Japan, was appointed to serve a three-year term as Kiwanis Children’s Fund trustee, beginning October 1, 2022.
Yoshida is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Tokyo, where he served as club president from 2014-15. He also served the Japan District as distinguished secretary from 2011-13, lieutenant governor from 2014-15 and distinguished governor from 2018-19. He was a trustee of the Asia Pacific Board in 2018-19. In 2021, Yoshida was appointed to the Kiwanis International Young Children Committee. He is a George F. Hixson Fellow and a charter Walter Zeller Fellow, and he especially enjoys making and teaching others how to make Kiwanis dolls for children in hospitals. Yoshida views Kiwanis International and the Kiwanis Children’s Fund as “the two motive wheels of a vehicle,” each of them “indispensable” in the cause of serving the children of the world.
In addition to his work with Kiwanis, Yoshida tutors and prepares lunch for primary school children at a local Buddhist temple. He has also helped to plan and implement a children’s cafeteria for kids in need of nourishing food and socialization.
Yoshida holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Keio University in Tokyo. Until recently, he was an independent insurance consultant after retiring from the managing officer of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co. Ltd. In his free time, Yoshida enjoys golf, tennis, photography, classical music, travel and playing the game of go.
He and his wife, Masako, have two children and four grandchildren.
