Michel Fongue, “Miguel”

ASPAC Secretary 2025-2026

Kiwanian Michel FONGUE or Miguel is a 48-year-old Kiwanian of KC Mont Dore, New Zealand South Pacific District. He is also a charter member of KC Guam. He was Kiwanis International Trustee from 2020-2023, ASPAC Chair in 2002-2003 and was Distinguished Governor in 1992-1993 from New Zealand South Pacific District. He also served as Kiwanis International Foundation Trustee (now KCF) in 2002-2005, ASPAC Secretary/Treasurer in 2017-2018, ASPAC Convention Organizing Committee Chair in 1997, District Convention organizing Committee chair (twice), Distinguished Lieutenant Governor in 1986-87 and Club President in 1982-1983.

Miguel is a third generation from Fongue family born in Tahiti, French Polynesia with Chinese ancestors. He was born with three languages: French, Tahitian and Chinese Hakka. He learned English and Spanish in school. With his multi-cultural background, Miguel himself is international.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering at the University of Nice, France. His first job was with the IT Department of New Caledonia Government as Technical Director in the Engineering Department. He transferred to IBM USA Company based in FRANCE and worked as Sales Technical Engineer for 19 years covering New Caledonia and Tahiti. He built the first Kiwanis club in Tahiti in 988. He took his early retirement in 2002 and started his own Sports and Surf wear business in New Caledonia. Finally, he closed his business in August 2025 to be fully retired.

In March 2020, Michel Fongue was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Noumea City, Capital of New Caledonia. His term of office will end in March 2026. He is currently serving as the President of the Chinese Community Association, Secretary General of the Polynesian Solidarity Association and Treasurer of Tahitian Cultural Association, all based in New Caledonia.

During his youthful age, Miguel was a midfield soccer player. He was also a tennis and squash player. His love with the Tahitian music never ceases. Currently, he is the Treasurer of a Ukulele band that performs at public events and teaches how to play ukulele on weekends for free.

Kiwanian Miguel was always visible in Kiwanis International and ASPAC Conventions. He attended 32 ASPAC conventions, 28 International conventions and all District conventions since 1986. He is a George F Hixson Fellow – Diamond level, Hixson Ambassador, Walter Zeller Fellowship, District John Griffen Fellow – Pearl Level.

Michel is proud to say that he is a true-blooded Kiwanian improving the world with his active involvement. Embracing diversity and bringing the multi-cultural mindset into our organization will strengthen camaraderie among members. It will make KIWANIS a truly international, unified and cohesive global organization. He believed that with his sheer involvement, he could positively improve the world for children.
