Happy Winter Solstice Festival to our fellow Kiwanians in Japan, Malaysia, Hongkong, Korea and Taiwan District.

Dongzhi Festival celebrated around December 21 to 23, marks the arrival of winter in Chinese and East Asian cultures. Beyond its literal meaning, “the coming of winter,” the festival is a blend of cultural significance and practical preparations.

Families gather for celebrations reminiscent of the New Year, emphasizing unity and ancestral connections. Dongzhi serves as a time for farmers and fishermen to gather provisions for the cold season, symbolizing readiness for winter’s arrival.

This cultural tradition not only signifies a seasonal shift but also highlights the importance of family and communal ties during the winter solstice.
