ASPAC 2024 AWARDS: BEST SERVICE PROJECT

In a commendable effort to address plastic waste, the Kiwanis Club of Golden Salakot Aklan in the SOUTHERN PHILIPPINE DISTRICT launched Project: BAYLO (Basura ay Yaman at Likaskayang Oportunidad para sa Kabataan), translating to "Trash is a treasure and a sustainable opportunity for children".

This initiative is crucial given the staggering statistics - we produce approximately 400 million tons of plastics annually, with 36% used in packaging, much of which ends up in landfills. The BAYLO Project has directly impacted 2,000 children and has already collected 5,000 bottles, equivalent to 3 tons of plastic, which have been repurposed into eco-bricks.

The project aims to create eco-friendly items such as chairs, benches, tables, or sheds. This initiative aligns with Kiwanis ASPAC's GREEN GENERATION Campaign, contributing to the fulfillment of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal #13: Climate Action.
