The 53rd Kiwanis New Zealand and South Pacific Convention held in Christchurch, New Zealand on August 18-20, 2023, under the leadership of District Governor Bernard Desarmagnac, was marked by notable highlights. Notably, the convention celebrated the golden anniversary of three prominent clubs: Kiwanis Club of Napier Club, Kiwanis Club of Port Vila, and Kiwanis Club of North West Christchurch. These clubs' enduring contributions were acknowledged within the context of the convention's commemoration.
The convention's opening ceremony on August 18th commenced with a warm welcome by a choral performance accompanied by a skilled piano player, while Opawa School students proudly showcased a flag parade. The objects of Kiwanis were eloquently shared in both English and French, emphasizing the global reach and unity of the organization. Guest Speaker Pauline Cotter, Deputy Mayor of Christchurch, expressed her gratitude for Kiwanis' impactful community endeavors.
Furthermore, the convention witnessed the installation of Lieutenant Governors by Governor Designate Danielle Desarmagnac. Danielle's induction as Governor for the 2023-2024 term was carried out by KI Trustee Linda Lawther. Adding substance to the proceedings, the NZSP District Governor initiated a productive business session, underscoring the convention's blend of celebration and purposeful engagement.
