Philippines’ ‘Undas’: Honoring Loved Ones with Tradition

All Saints’ Day, or "Undas", in the Philippines uniquely blends solemn remembrance with joyful cultural traditions. On November 1st, families gather at cemeteries to honor departed loved ones with prayers, flowers, candles, and shared meals, transforming gravesites into vibrant hubs of family gathering and storytelling. This unique cultural tradition not only honors the past but strengthens family bonds across generations.

The days leading up to "Undas" have embraced Halloween festivities, with communities and Kiwanis clubs hosting Trick or Treat spooky parties with costumes and games, adding a festive note to the season. The tradition of "nangangaluluwa" (soul singing) , where children and adults go door-to-door singing for treats or donations, combines Filipino community spirit with Halloween fun, creating a celebration that is both reverent and lively.
