ASPAC 2024 AWARDS: BEST SERVICE PROJECT

The Kiwanis Club of Nagasaki in JAPAN DISTRICT conducts “Floating Lanterns” every year to send prayers on world peace with children. They first collect messages on world peace from children around the globe. Together with the SLP clubs they sponsor, they make boats with the collected messages. The boats are made of recycled papers used to make paper cranes that were donated to Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Again, with the SLP clubs they sponsor, they float lanterns and pray on world peace.

After the event, they collect the lanterns, dry them, and exhibit them at Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum. With multiple generations involved, this provides an opportunity for all the people to think about world peace.
