Project BAYLO: Turning Trash into Treasure for a Greener Tomorrow

In a commendable effort to address the issue of plastic waste, the Kiwanis Club of Golden Salakot Aklan in the Southern Philippine District has launched Project BAYLO: Basura ay Yaman at Likas kayang Oportunidad Para sa Kabataan (Trash is a treasure and a sustainable opportunity for the children).

This initiative aims to encourage children to collect and exchange at least 525 grams of shredded and compacted single-use plastics placed in plastic bottles for a kilo of rice and school supplies. The kick-off event took place at Kalibo Pilot Elementary School, Aklan with the active participation of 150 children.

This project aligns with the environmental stewardship campaign of Kiwanis Asia-Pacific, not only promoting social responsibility but also contributing to the creation of eco-friendly outputs such as chairs and benches from the collected plastic-filled bottles.

This innovative approach not only tackles plastic waste but also empowers children by providing them with essential resources in exchange for their efforts in promoting a cleaner environment.
